A Magistrate Court in Delta state has sentenced a kidnap
suspect, Chijoke Okeke to nine years imprisonment for kidnapping a seven
year old boy and demanding N7million as ransom.
The
suspect was found guilty on a three-count charge of conspiracy to
commit a felony to kidnap and demanding with menace a ransom for the
release of the seven year old Tobechukwu Emmanuel Anyamene.
The young boy was kidnapped on the 18th of December 2011, at St
John’s Anglican Church, Ogidi and brought to Power line, Oko, close to
the Niger bridge head where he was kept.
He was later rescued by officers of the Delta State Police Command in
collaboration with the local vigilante group who arrested the
abductors.
Speaking on the sentence, the Attorney General and Commissioner of
Justice in the State, Honourable Charles Ajuyah described it as a
demonstration of the government’s effort to tackle the menace of
kidnapping and other crimes in the state and also achieving justice for
the victims as the perpetrators will not go unpunished.
