Vincent Enyeama
Super Eagles stand-in captain Vincent Enyeama has admitted he is facing a dilemma over his own future.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper has less
than three months to quit Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he has
been playing on loan since last year, and return to his parent France
outfit Lille.
Enyeama, who joined Lille from Israeli
side Hapoel Tel Aviv on a three-year contract in June 2011, could not
bench the then Les Dogues first-choice keeper Michael Landreau. The
33-year-old former France international, who joined Corsican club Bastia
last year, ensured that it took his Nigerian rival five months to make
his debut for the team in a UEFA Champions League 1-0 defeat by Inter
Milan. The Frenchman also denied Enyeama action in the French Ligue 1
throughout his stay at the club.
The South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of
Nations winner said during the week he would return to France at the end
of the Israeli Premier League season where he has two years to go on
his contract.
“My future still needs to be sorted out
and until June, July or August, I won’t know if I will be playing in
England, Spain, Italy or even remain in Israel. Only God knows,” he
said.
“I still have two years left on my contract so as a matter of obligation, I must return to Lille.”
But the CAF Champions League winner
has a mountain to climb to displace Frenchman Steeve Elana who has be
on form helping Lille to a fifth-place in Ligue 1 table.
Elana, who arrived at Stade
Lille-Metropole as Enyeama was booking a flight back to Israel last
year, made daring saves to help Lille leapfrogged Nice into their
current position on Sunday.
