House of Reps summons Anenih to account for abandoned road project

House of Reps summons Anenih to account for abandoned road project
The public accounts committee of the House of Representatives on Monday summoned former Chairman of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Anenih  to account for funds released for an uncompleted road project.
The house made the resolution reached after considering the report of the auditor general of the federation on the activities of the federal ministry of works.
The auditor general’s report said the contractor executed only nineteen per cent of the job but was paid far in excess of the work done and no attempt was made to recover the N552 million paid to the contractor as mobilisation fee.
The contract which was for the reconstruction of a road in Nasarawa State was awarded in September 2001 to a contractor with a completion date of April 18, 2003. However, it was observed during inspection of the project site in 2004 that the project was abandoned.
Chief Anenih, who was the minister of works at the time the road contract was awarded is expected to appear before the house committee on public accounts to provide details of the contract agreement.
