Chelsea
midfielder Mikel Obi has confirmed he would be available for Nigeria
during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Namibia and the
Confederations Cup tournament in Brazil, in June.
The 26-year old, an influential force as
the Super Eagles triumphed at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa
in February, said on Saturday he already had an appointment with the
Brazilian embassy in London on Monday.
“I love to represent my country. I wish
to confirm that I will be in Kenya and Namibia for the World Cup
qualifying games and will also be in Brazil for the Confederations Cup.
“I would have loved to play in the
friendly match against Mexico but circumstances and logistics have made
it impossible,” Mikel said in a chat with Eagles secretary, Enebi Achor.
Mikel will join the Eagles in Frankfurt,
Germany, on their return from the friendly against Mexico in the United
States of America and fly with the squad to Nairobi on June 4 for the
game versus Kenya. The match is scheduled for June 5 at the Moi
International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Mikel has had a magnificent last two
seasons, winning the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League
trophies with Chelsea and the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.
