The Court of Appeal Determines Rev. King’s Fate Today

If you don’t know who Rev. King was, I jug your memory back, he was the pastor who poured petrol on six of his church members and set them on fire thereafter.

The Court of Appeal in Lagos will Friday (today) decide whether or not to quash the death sentence passed on the General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo (aka Rev. King), by a Lagos High Court, Ikeja on January 11, 2007.

The appellate court headed by Justice Amina Augie on November 5, 2012 had heard arguments of parties on the appeal filed by Ezeugo, through his counsel, Mr. Olalekan Ojo.

Bishop Oyedepo receives 700 cars as offering from worshippers

According to some sources, during Winners Chapel Cross Over service on Tuesday January 1st in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun state, worshipers of the church made donations of over 700 exotic cars to the church.

People who felt they had been richly blessed in 2012 came to the cross over service with different donations, most significant were the number of exotic brand new cars and SUVs that flooded Canaanland.

The people who donated them dropped the car keys and documents during offering.

The church auctioned the cars at very cheap prices to its members. Some cars were sold for at less than N300k.

Togo have made history by reaching the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals for the first time ever, drawing 1-1 with Tunisia in a drama-filled encounter that saw Tunisia miss a penalty kick.

Togo will now face the impressive Burkina Faso in the next round.

Serge Gapke’s opening goal was cancelled out by a Khaled Mouelhi penalty. But Mouelhi went on to his the upright with another penalty in the second half.

13-Year-Old Girl Gang-Raped By Married Man And His Friends In Lagos

The Nigeria police in Lagos State has arrested three friends, Achonam Emenuwa, 32, Godwin Udoh, 22, and Emenike Orji, 20, who allegedly impregnated a 13-year old girl (name withheld) after they allegedly raped her in turns.
The teenager is now five months pregnant and expecting a baby in four months’ time. Her parents are confused on who among them actually impregnated her.
The suspects allegedly lured the little girl to Emenuwa’s room at 19, Majaro street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos where they raped her in turns. Thereafter, they warned her not to tell anyone otherwise they would kill her.
Emenuwa is married with five kids, while his two friends are still single.
However, the deed was blown open when she became pregnant and she confessed to her parents what happened.
The three men were arrested by the police at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi and charged to Oshodi Magistrate’s court with rape and unlawful carnal knowledge of  the girl.
The court ordered that the matter be transfered to the family court Ikeja, Lagos.
Narrating what happened, the girl told P.M.NEWS that Achonam called her to his room to buy drinks for his visitors who are now the two defendants in the matter.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Gives US$30,000 To Each Super Eagle For Getting To Quarter-Finals

THE Nigeria Football Federation yesterday dolled out US $30,000 to each member of the Super Eagles for qualifying for the quarter final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles yesterday defeated Ethiopia 2-0 in a tension soaked match played in Rustenburg. The Eagles qualified alongside Burkina Faso from Group D.
Burkina Faso on the other hand ended their tie with Zambia 0-0 at the Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit. The result ensured the elimination of Zambia that ended third in the log with 3 points from three matches.

Dismissed Policeman, 8 Arrested Over Nkiru Sylvanus’s Kidnapping

State Security Service and the police have arrested a dismissed policeman, Ndidi Cletus, 30, and eight others in connection with the abduction of a Nollywood actress and aide to the Imo State Governor, Nkeiruka Sylvanus last December.

Six of them, Cletus, Stanley Asonna; Aminu Musa (aka Boski); Mohammed Abubakar; Obinna Okwuolisa; Samson Onwuka (aka VIP) were paraded at the SSS headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday while three others, Okoro Bassey; Chijoke Chima, and Festus Ologeme were in police custody.

The security agencies said the suspects belonged to a gang of “notorious kidnappers” that terrorised Imo State.

The sum of N3.4m was found on Cletus at the time of his arrest.

Deputy Director, Public Relations and Media, SSS, Marilyn Ogar, who paraded the suspects at a news conference attended by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, explained that Cletus, a native of Umuokedinma Awara in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, enlisted into the police as a constable in 2004 with the name, Mathew Ofurum.

EFCC re-arrests convicted and freed police pension boss, John Yusuf

A spokesman for EFCC told journalists today that the anti-graft agency has re-arrested Mr John Yusuf, the director of the Police Pension Office who was set free by a high court in Abuja yesterday after paying a N250, 000 fine after pleading guilty to converting N2billion of the police pension fund to personal use.

The spokesman said EFCC re-arrested Mr Yusuf today because there were other pending cases against him. The pension boss was arrested and tried with five others for stealing N23.3 billion police pension fund.

If he agreed to stealing N2 billion then you guys can imagine how much he really stole. And they freed him? Tears for my country!

Gang-up Against Eagles: NFF Fires Protest To CAF

Livid with rage over the questionable officiating against Nigeria at the on-going African Cup of Nations, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has fired a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
Technical Committee Chairman of the NFF, Barrister Chris Green confirmed that they have protested to CAF to look into the questionable calls by referees in the two matches so far played by Nigeria.
“We’ve registered our protest to CAF. The whole thing is annoying”, Green said at the Stay Easy hotel abode of the NFF.
Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi had complained about the poor officiating that saw the Eagles receive five yellow cards and one red card in their first match against Burkina Faso which ended 1-1. Dad Threatens Daughter With AK-47 After She Got Two Bs On Her Report Card

A 51-year-old father has been arrested for allegedly pointing an AK-47 rifle at his daughter for getting two B’s — instead of straight A’s, on her report card.
Huffington Post reports that Kirill Bartashevitch who resides in Minnesota swore at the girl for failing to get straight A’s, she told him she hated him, which led to him allegedly pointing the rifle at her.
‘A social worker said the girl had sent a text message to a friend of hers about the incident. The friend’s mother had seen the message and told the social worker about it’.
Bartashevitch’s wife confirmed the incident to investigators that their daughter was telling the truth about what happened. She added that she tried to protect her daughter, but her husband pushed her onto the floor and pointed the gun at both of them.
Bartashevitch admitted to pointing the gun at this family, but added that he had checked the chamber beforehand to make sure it was not loaded.  He also said his daughter claims she was not afraid because she also knew the gun was not loaded.

An Abuja High Court today sentenced a former head of the Police Pension Board, Mr Yakubu Yusuf, to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to embezzling N2billion of police pension fund.

But guess what? Mr Yusuf was given an option of N250 thousand to avoid the jail sentence. He was also asked to forfeit property valued at N325 million.

Sports Controversial Egyptian Referee Booted From Africa Cup

Egyptian referee, Ghead Grisha, who was at the centre in the Group C match between Nigeria and Cup holders Zambia in Nelspruit on Friday, has been sacked from the 29th Africa Cup of Nations.

A17-year-old girl identified simply as Simi has exposed the hiding place of her robber father to the officials of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.
Her father, Ife, was the alleged leader of a 10-man robbery gang that killed four policemen in Ajah during a robbery operation two weeks ago.
Simi did not give her father up easily. She gave the information the police needed to arrest her father after a four-hour non-stop interrogation.

The Ogun State Government and the police on Sunday disagreed over the delay in police investigation of the principal of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Rev. Olufunke Aladeojobi, who allegedly conducted virginity tests on pupils of the school. A senior police officer attached to the Ogun State Police Command, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told our correspondent on Sunday that the government had yet to hand over Aladeojobi to them.
He said, “It is amazing that Ogun State government has yet to hand her (Aladeojobi) over to us despite the fact that we had an understanding that they would release her to us after they might have concluded their inquiry into the incident.

NFF holds emergency meeting over Keshi’s future

There could be a major shake-up in the Super Eagles technical crew except Stephen Keshi leads the team to victory over Ethiopia on Tuesday. The Eagles have drawn two matches in Group C against Burkina Faso and Zambia and must beat Ethiopia to progress to the next round of the competition. But the Nigeria Football Federation seems to have lost patience against the coach leading to a crisis meeting held in Nelspruit on Saturday.
A reliable source present at the meeting said Keshi could be on his way out despite NFF’s earlier promise to retain him no matter his achievement in South Africa. The source, who pleaded anonymity, said it would be an embarrassment if the Eagles failed to reach the next stage.
“They got all the financial assistance needed and all the support from the FA, so what is the problem?” said the source.
“The team is not playing well and that is why the late goals are painful. We have been hanging on dangerously and that must not continue. The Eagles must show commitment and play beyond the average level. But if it continues this way, we may seek an alternative to solve the technical issue,” he added.

Isaac Dada Akinyanmi, at a one-day seminar on the theme: Sexual Abuse and Prevention.
At the event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro and organized by the Christianah Fate Foundation, the need for the parents and guardians to monitor and guide their children from falling prey to sexual abuse, especially from bad peers that might influence them, was stressed.
Pupils were counseled to refrain from unholy habits and remain focused on their studies, for them to excel in their callings. Going through rigorous counseling and education on how to be responsible and successful in life, the session, which was divided into two, the boys and the girls, afforded the pupils; Oyerinde; and two volunteers, Mr Kingsley Ewhonarevia and Mr Rodney John; to x-ray the root causes and prevention of habits which deter pupils from reaching their set goals in academics and other callings. They therefore called on pupils and other stakeholders to partner with government and NGOs in fulfilling the expectations of the society.

Kidnapped two-year old School Boy Freed After N5M Ransom Paid

Kidnapped Nigerian two-year old school boy, Emmanuel Alonge has been returned to his parents by the kidnappers after his family paid N5 million ransom.

Alonge was kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen on Monday at Iju area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria and taken to an unknown destination.
The kidnappers had earlier demanded for N150 million, which they later slashed to N100 million and then to N20 million and later to N5 million.
Mr. Olusegun Alonge, father of the boy told P.M. NEWS on phone yesterday morning that the boy has been returned to the family by the kidnappers after paying N5 million ransom.

Manchester United Agree Deal With Crystal Palace For Wilfried Zaha

Manchester United have agreed a fee with Crystal Palace to sign Wilfried Zaha.
Zaha, who is undergoing a medical today, will be loaned straight back to the Championship club for the rest of the current season, before moving to Old Trafford in July.
The winger has agreed personal terms and the deal is expected to be concluded next week.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: “We are signing a player of potential. We always feel we develop players well. We have proved that many times. We hope the boy enjoys coming here, when he comes in the summer.”
Zaha said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester United and ending the recent speculation.
“I would like to thank the owners at Palace for making the move possible, however my focus for the next five months will be solely at Crystal Palace. “I have been at Palace for more than 10 years, I will always love the club and I want to help get them get back to the Premier League, particularly for the fans who have always been so good to me.”

Man Grows New Nose In His Arm

A businessman who lost his nose to skin cancer is having a new one grown in his arm using stem cells, in a pioneering procedure.
Experts at University College London say the new nose will look exactly the same as the man’s original one, and hope it will even have a sense of smell.
The trial marks the first time a full nose has been grown from scratch, and could in future be used as a therapy for patients such as soldiers and car crash victims, the Daily Mail reported.
The first stage of the process was to create a glass mould of the unnamed man’s nose, and to spray it with a honeycomb-like material to form a biological scaffold for new cells to attach themselves to.
Once the scaffold had been built, the glass mould was removed and the biological frame was coated with millions of stem cells which can be coaxed into forming cartilage using chemicals.
At the same time, researchers inserted a small balloon beneath the surface of the man’s arm and gradually inflated it to stretch the skin, making it loose enough to accommodate the new nose.
Professor Alex Seifalian, who is leading the experiment, said the man’s nose has been designed to look exactly like the original – slightly crooked.
He told BBC Focus magazine: “His nose was a little bit bent to the left and we asked if he wanted it straight but he said no, he wanted it exactly the same.”

Five Human Heads Found In Community Leader’s House In Plateau

Security men yesterday recovered five human heads from the residence of a community leader in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State generating concern among residents of the area.
The human heads were recovered after a search of the premises by a combined team of soldiers and policemen who stormed Mangun village around 10.30 am following a tip off, according to sources.
The security men who reportedly came from Abuja arrived at the village in about five Hilux vans and immediately cordoned off the premises of the community leader popularly called Ardo and began a search which yielded the recovery of the human heads hidden in the ceiling.
